Verónica Fernández

I am Verónica Fernández. I have a Bachelor of Science in Education and a PhD in Leadership and Management of Institutions of Higher Education. In addition to being a professor at the University Francisco de Vitoria in Madrid, Spain, I am the international head of the area of schools of the RC Schools Network; I am part of a virtues research team and collaborate with the MacGrath Institute at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, USA, on teacher training projects.

I am a versatile and flexible person, with experience in training and team management in educational institutions at an international level, aiding managers and teachers in the implementation of the mission, vision and values of their institution.

I am active, enterprising, curious; I have a thirst for learning, I am optimistic and committed to people and to what I do. The field of education is one of my greatest areas of interest, mainly the formation of teachers and leadership to help people flourish; research on these areas, and the promotion of new educational projects that truly contribute to improving education.

What interests you the most about the potential for Leadership and Flourishing?

Leadership for Flourishing is an inspiration for me. I’m convinced that education can change a person and society as a whole. For this reason teachers who are flourishing lie at the heart of successful educational systems. When educational leaders ensure that teachers are flourishing and are able to live their vocation, it gives way to educational improvement, enhances student wellbeing and academic outcomes, and has the potential to grow the teaching profession and the transformation of society. That’s why I’m convinced that this amazing group is an inspiration to make all this possible.

What are you most excited about working on?

One of my greatest areas of interest in this group is collaborating in the model for Leadership for Flourishing and in developing resources to enable model implementation. In my work at the university we are trying to form teachers on leadership so that they can help their students to flourish by the acquisition of virtues. A Leadership for Flourishing framework would be very helpful and inspiring in our work. I’m also interested on research on these areas, and in the promotion of new educational projects that truly contribute to improving education. I know I’m going to be learning a lot from this marvelous group of researchers and practitioners!
